Despensa Oct. 3rd, 2016 - New Distribution Location

Grupo Axixic Michicihualli moved its distribution site to the football field south of the Lienzo Charro off of Revolucion (where the Wednesday Tianguis is held). We have bathroom facilities, more room, more parking and greater autonomy at the new place.

Early in the day, Raul and the volunteers arrive to receive and sort cubetas (pails) that are marked for each of the recipients.  These are arranged and set aside, ready to be filled with the despensa.

The Jalisco Food Bank truck arrives and we get to work!  We unload all the despensa, take accurate counts of all items and arrange them by category.

Once all the products are arranged and counted, we start filling the cubetas and bags.

Raul and volunteers prep the produce, removing over ripe fruit and vegetables, trimming the outer leaves of the cabbages.

With a lot of help, elbow grease, some cheerful whistling and sturdy determination the bags and cubetas are filled.

Somehow the recipients know exactly when to show up to start collecting their despensa.  The smiles and looks of appreciation are beautiful to behold.

Hats off to all the generous people involved in this wonderful program.
